This was really inexpensive and , having limited time in Istanbul this is a great thing to do – also it was raining and therefore walking was not a great option. We saw lots of things we could do if we returned. They have two routes – the blue and the red. They overlap a bit at the start but still great for letting you get you bearings.

    Big bus istanbul
Toured the whole Istanbul within 2 days!! I mean how better can it get. It was pleasent and joyful especially if you’re there for a short stay. The staff were lovely, kind and professional. Especially one which i recall his name being Ayyaz. He was really professional, friendly, was able to provide you with every single information, spoke several languages and very polite. If you were to imagine your experience with big bus istanbul, Ayyaz will probably be in your mind. A pure representative of big bus istanbul just standing right in front of you. Professionalism at its finest. Pretty much Ayyaz sums up the whole big bus istanbul company and because of staff like him, he puts a good reputation on big bus istanbul. Defo would recommend and use big bus istanbul next time. The price is perfect and affordable and makes sense. We paid 40 dollars each for 2 days. The best thing about big bus istanbul was that you can hop on and off at spots were you can explore further and still a bus would come. The view from within the bus was perfect. The commentary from the auto audio was excellent. Overall, 5 out of 5 from me for big bus istanbul and Ayyaz. Worth it

    Big bus Istanbul
Big bus made getting to the attractions very easy and the audio on the bus was a nice touch. Faruk sold me the ticket and helped me every time I needed a time or even buying a transit card. He remembered me every time I saw him over the week I was in Istanbul.

    Big bus tour…
We bought 48 hours tour which included 2 hours boat trip as well, it is the best way to explore Istanbul city, the two routes red and blue covers most of the attractions.

The only drawback is difficult to find bus after 4 pm, due to peak hours on the road but if you have Istanbul travel card then it is easy to travel from point A to B.
It is very similar to oyster card in london.
    Hope this helps.

Best way to start Istanbul tour from Sultanahmet Square, easy to hop on and hop off at sightseeings, attractions and awesome restaurants. Big Bus runs two routes : blue and red route, both are covered by same ticket but different buses. Staff was very friendly and helpful especially Mertcan. We purchased 1 day ticket and got 2nd day free ticket….used it for 2 days and covered major attractions in this amazing city. Looking forward to come back here soon.

When I became ill in Istanbul and did not want to spend my time in the hotel bed, I decided to go on a big bus tour from Sultanahmet Square. The ticket is quite expensive, but it is valid for 24 hours and for different tours. I went on several tours and saw very much of Istanbul. Thus I was also taken to places I would probably never have seen alone, e.g. at the back of the Halic region. I could take a lot of photos, too. Once I went on the last tour of the day. It was getting dark and the light went on everywhere. We went across one of the bridges to Asia, and in Camlica we had a longer pause. Time was enough for me to eat and drink something in a restaurant with panorama windows. You could see the skyline of European Istanbul. The bridge was lit and it was changing colours all the time. Very nice. If you do this tour you must inform yourself if you can easily get back to your hotel. Or you can hop off at Taksim, for example, and spend the evening there. I do not regret having paid the amount for the ticket, but honestly, if you want to go on one tour only, you should not buy the expensive ticket. Besides, it should not rain at all…

We had a great experience with the bus, we took a one day card and used it for both bus lines (red and blue) and also for the boat ride. Big thank you to one of their employees Sohrab who literally ran with us so we can catch the last blue-line bus, made our day really 🙂

I was in Istanbul during a spate of bad weather (wall to wall rain) and the bus was a good way of getting round the city without trundling on and off the tram. I used both routes and saw parts of the city I would have otherwise missed. All the staff were incredibly friendly.

It is fairly possible to do both routes in the same day, and even visit in detail some key attractions. Suggest planning spending time in Sultanahmet park, visiting both Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia, and sepping off in Taksim square and walking down to Galata bridge. The two-days offer allows for much better coverage if you have the time. Don’t reccommend extyending the option to the water bus, there are much better cruises (especially on the small local boats)

If short of money go round to check out visits. I stayed mainly in Sultanahmet apart from big bus trips ferry trips and air con tram trips. If short of time use the red route most though either will take you to Galata Bridge with interesting places to eat and a fish market to wander through.red offers lots of places you want to get off.Visit Galata tower, look, eat in restaurant beside it which offers small plates of food from all over Turkey.Wonderful food & helpful staff. Tower had a queue as free to locals on Thursday. We went to Richmond Hotel(Google it) who have a beautiful restaurant on top but we’re happy to serve coffee mid afternoon & open windows to facilitate photos. A better view and a lift & coffee.

We bought tickets outside the Blue Mosque on the day we wished to travel. There was no problem and everything was simple: printed ticket and English language guide.

The Big Bus operates two routes: blue and red. It is suggested that you travel to an attraction and “jump off” and then rejoin after you have seen the attraction. On the first day we did not do this but stayed on the bus for the full tours. This was a very easy way to get a quick idea of the main attractions and the diversity of the city. On the second day we visited a small number of places.

In our opinion it takes time to see the attractions so we felt it better to concentrate on the second day. On subsequent days we visited other areas seen on the “Big Bus” on day one.

We felt that the tour was very good and we recommend that any person does the same.

Istanbul has good attraction area. The tour gave some good information, however, general information such as population number for Istanbul was missing. The staffs were having difficulty in communication with the tourists. Basically, language barrier was the main reason why they could not provide proper information asked to them. And they did not provide brochures for tourists as guide. While first tour was okay, the second was delayed like half an hour to forty five minutes. And in addition to this, no discounts given for tickets, cruise or museum. I recommend for first time visitorto Istanbul to use this tour to give general information about the city’s interesting places.

We did both lines over the course of two days and found it good value. The best bit was certainly going over the Bosphorus Bridge into Asia, especially if you are sitting at the top. Our almost 4 year old son enjoyed both trips. Commentary and info was pretty good although the music they play while there is no talking is rather loud. As an overview of the city, very good. If you want to get off at one of the less used stops I suggest you let the driver know – we wanted to get off at Transport Museum but he only stopped for a few seconds so we hadn’t even got out of our seats before he left again!

Excelent idea. We really like the time we spend in this trip. Both routes are carefully designed and well operated. Only half day and we visit most of the important spots of a big capital . That’s quite impressive. Plus , we bought 2 day pass and took impressive pictures of Istanbul , travel around all the places that we want to see and shop around in several places without spending money for the transportation. We wait maximum 10 min for the next bus which is impressive with the heavy traffic in Istanbul. Definitely worth the money that you pay , you even get more if you use it wisely 🙂

The Big Bus tour is always a must in exploring a new city. It’s best to do this during your first few days in Istanbul. You get to see an overview of the city in a short amount of time. We did both the red and blue line which took us to both the Asian and European side of Istanbul. I enjoyed crossing the Bosphorus bridge, which is one of the 2 bridges that connects Asia and Europe.

The bus had an audio guide which explained key landmarks and monuments as you pass them by and they also offered free wifi onboard which was really a plus factor. You can upload your pictures taken from the bus tour instantly.

Since this is a Hop-On Hop-Off, you might want to plan your day well and try to get off in key places and catch the next bus which comes every 30 minutes. The bus tour starts at 9am and ends at 6pm.

we enjoyed the tours (both the red line and the blue line) and I truly believe it is a must in the first days of your stay – you can easily take a quick look of everything and then decide what you want to see or where you want to stop; plus, it is a hop on hop off.
They also have wifi on the bus which works very well and they also have an app which has all the details of all the points of interest on each route – just in case you missed it when the audio guide explained 🙂

Hop-on Hop-off buses are very popular and available in most big cities of the World, so I will not enter into the details of the system and its advantages-disadvantages. For us is always a good way to get around the city with perfect view from the open upper deck of the bus and then stepping out to visit the attractions you want at your own pace. Clearly the bus tour is not a substitution to walking through the streets of Sultanhamed or Taksim! The ticket is cheaper if you buy it online (www.bigtours.com) and we took the 48h option which was only 5€ extra. The best is (if you have the time) to do the two available tours in two days.
In the Red Tour as a minimum I recommend to step out at the Galata Bridge /Egyptian Bazaar to inmerse yourself with the crowds in the markets, boat restaurants at the piers and to enjoy the view of the New Mosquee and Topkapi. The other stop Taksim with the interesting area, where you can take the old tram of Istiklal commercial street.
The Blue Tour repeats the Sultanhamed part and then goes into the Golden Horn. I recommend to step out at the Cable Car and enjoy the view from the top (see photo). If you are with kids you probably should stop at the Miniature park and at the Museum.
We did not have very good experience with the Istanbul taxis, they manipulate the meter or ignore it, drive fast and few of the drivers spoke english so I could not recommend a taxi as an option versus the Big Bus. The public transport is modern and works perfectly with the Instanbul card that you should purchase in advance, we used it as well, but also not a real competitor with the Hop-on Hop-off. Trams are packed full with people most of the time. As extra I would recommend you board a ship for a round tour on the Bosphorous in the late afternoon.
